About Me

An avid people & pet photographer, this blog is an easier way to share stories and photos with family and friends that are scattered across the globe. I'm a blonde who finally went back to her natural color after years of being a redhead. I'm in love with photography, reading, movies, live music, history and my Italian Greyhound Dante. Born in Norway, I've been living in SoCal since I was five. {Photo by Nancy Orozco}

Introducing: Anja

I might have mentioned that last week my youngest brother brought home his new puppy, a rescued 4-month-old Rhodesian Ridgeback-lab mix. He and his girlfriend decided to name her Anja (pronounced Ahn-ya), and she is the cutest! Just look at that sweet little face!

Right? So sweet. We're all totally in love with her already. As if we had any choice.

Ridgebacks are known to be super smart, and Anja is no exception. Over the last week, she's already learned sit and stay. Definitely playful and puppylike, they're working on the chewing, but otherwise she's incredibly well behaved. (Really, better than Dante, but sssshhhh! Don't tell him I said so.)

She has the definitive ridge of the breed, which is super weird and takes some getting used to when it comes to petting. (Please pardon our brown grass. We're conserving water!)

Her first walk was a success, all things considered. They've been taking her out about three times a day since then to use up all that energy!

She's got decent sized paws and ears, so she'll grow quite a bit in the next year, and hopefully they'll get her trained up before she can start grabbing things off the counters and coffee table! :)

Dante, being more of a people dog than a pack dog, was super jealous at first and wouldn't deign to play with her. But he's loosening up, just like he did when Sprocket first joined the family, and even started playing chase in the backyard yesterday.

Honestly I can't blame him too much, seeing as she likes to nip at his heels and pull him by his leash, as evidenced by this hilarious video my mom took yesterday:

Poor Dante just doesn't understand! So hard to discipline Anja when she does hilarious stuff like this. She also likes to pick up the dog bowls and carry them around the room.

I wish she could stay this size forever, but we're enjoying the puppydom while it lasts. :)

So get used to that adorable face, because she'll be regular around these here blog parts! :)
